Job summary

NiSource Inc. is seeking a Drafter to create, revise, and maintain 2D CAD drawings for gas distribution and transmission facilities using AutoCAD. You will translate project information into drawings and support engineering teams across multiple project types, including emergencies.

Drafter 1 requires foundational AutoCAD experience and at least 1 year of relevant job experience; Drafter 2 needs 3+ years, stronger AutoCAD mastery, and GIS integration knowledge. Public utility environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic understanding of Plant 2D.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Validate driver's license.
• Ability to pass a DOT drug screen.
• Drafter 1: At least 1 year of relevant job experience.
• Foundational hands-on experience using AutoCAD to create and revise 2D drawings, including layers, dimensions, and annotations.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS software.
• Drafter 2: At least 3 years of relevant job experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD with extensive drafting experience, managing layers, dimensions, annotations, and design changes with limited guidance.
• Basic understanding of engineering and construction principles.
• Basic knowledge of industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Associates degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Certified Drafter (CD) offered by the ADAA.
• Familiarity with GIS software.
• Basic knowledge of industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Basic understanding of engineering and construction principles.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise, and maintain 2D drawings using AutoCAD, including P&IDs and isometrics.
• Review project plans, specifications, and supporting documents to prepare accurate drawings.
• Maintain records of drawing revisions and design changes.
• Support engineering and operations during emergencies and after-hours as needed.
• Apply ArcGIS data to integrate project footprint and site analysis.
