Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Designer in Roanoke, VA to perform drafting and design tasks under general supervision. You will create and revise engineering drawings, support facilities documentation, and ensure compliance with AEP safety and quality standards.

Experience with CAD and MS Office is required, along with the ability to work overtime and travel as needed. The role involves collaborating with engineering teams, interpreting vendor prints, and training others in basic

Qualifications

Associate degree in applied science (AAS) drafting and computer aided design (CAD) or relevant equivalent experience/education.
One to two years of work designer experience; or six years of related drafting/CAD experience with no AAS.
Must be available to work overtime, including call-out overtime and shift work; travel >10%.
Familiar with conventional drafting symbols and methods; able to read vendor prints and drawings.

Responsibilities

Create, revise and maintain engineering and record drawings and sketches.
Support creation, revision, and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents and records.
Obtain information from verbal input, sketches, field notes, and vendor catalogs to perform work.
Perform mathematical calculations required for assigned work.
Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office.
Coordinate with other organizational units to ensure safe, efficient work delivery.
Read vendor prints and instructions and incorporate into work.
Assist in training AEP employees in basic skills of the position.
