Job summary

American Electric Power Co. Roanoke, VA is seeking an Electrical Designer Intern.

The onsite role uses CAD to create and update 3D inventory parts, assemblies and drawings, and 2D AutoCAD Electrical schematics, building a strong foundation for your engineering career. You will create and revise drawings, maintain facility records, gather data from sketches and field notes, perform CAD tasks using AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor and Vault, and read vendor prints.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least one year toward an AAS in drafting and CAD or in civil, structural, electrical or mechanical engineering technology or design.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and sketches.
• Support the creation, revision, and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents; including construction, equipment, and property records.
• Obtain information required to perform work from verbal communication, sketches, marked drawings, listings, field notes, vendors' catalogs and site visits.
• Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work.
• Proficiency in the use of computer aided design software; Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, Vault.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software.
• Read vendors' prints, shop and other drawings and equipment operating instructions, and incorporate that information into the work.
• Demonstrate ethical behavior as outlined in the AEP corporate policies.
• Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
