Job summary

American Electric Power Co. is seeking a Designer to perform CAD drafting to prepare maps, sketches, schematics and other drawings.

The role includes related clerical work and supports engineering teams; it is not an engineering role but backs engineering efforts. Education requirements include an Associate degree in AAS drafting and CAD or engineering technology, or relevant equivalent experience; travel >10% and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in drafting/CAD or related engineering tech with equivalent experience.
• Equivalent experience without AAS: high school grad with 4+ years drafting experience.
• Willingness to work overtime and travel >10% as required.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings, sketches, and CAD records.
• Support documentation for facilities and equipment; manage construction and records.
• Obtain information from verbal input, sketches, field notes and catalogs; incorporate into drawings.
• Perform mathematical calculations as required for assigned work.
• Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office.
• Coordinate with other company groups to ensure safe, efficient work.
• Read vendor prints and operating instructions; incorporate data into work.
