Job summary

American Electric Power invites applicants for a designer internship based in Roanoke, VA. The role focuses on CAD drafting to create and update 3D Inventory parts, assemblies, and drawings, plus 2D AutoCAD Electrical drawings.

You will gain a solid foundation for your engineering career through hands-on CAD work and documentation tasks. Essential duties include drafting revisions, maintaining records, and absorbing information from drawings, field notes, and catalogs.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least one year toward an AAS in CAD or related engineering technology.
• Familiarity with drafting symbols and conventions is expected.
• Must be 18+ with graduation date of December 2027 or later.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and sketches.
• Support facility and equipment documentation including construction and property records.
• Gather information from drawings, notes, catalogs and field visits to perform tasks.
• Perform basic math calculations to complete assignments.
• Proficient use of CAD software (Autodesk products) and Microsoft Office.
• Read vendor prints and instructions and incorporate into work.
