Summary

We are seeking a results-driven Business Development Specialist with strong business acumen, technical skills, and a strategic mindset. The ideal candidate will foster growth, build relationships, and collaborate across teams, using a consultative sales approach and industry knowledge to develop effective outbound strategies.

What You’ll Be Accountable For

The Business Development Specialist builds relationships with trade suppliers, identifies sales opportunities, and generates new business via outbound prospecting. Responsibilities include engaging potential clients, maintaining prospect databases, collaborating across departments to increase market share and brand awareness, driving supplier participation in events, supporting membership retention, and utilizing market insights to refine sales strategies. The role also involves managing CRM data, tracking account activity, and helping achieve business development targets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Build relationships with trade suppliers and identify sales opportunities.
  • Contact prospective clients through cold-calling, emailing, and campaigns to build a sales pipeline.
  • Create a professional first impression with prospects and customers.
  • Maintain and update prospect database with complete contact information.
  • Qualify outbound opportunities and collaborate for a smooth customer experience.
  • Generate new business through outbound prospecting.
  • Prioritize leads, research prospects, and present relevant product features.
  • Follow up with calls-to-action to build sales pipeline.
  • Contribute to company growth by scaling core business.
  • Collaborate with departments to enhance market share, brand awareness, and sales, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Drive trade supplier participation in tech summits, expos, education, and LMS events.
  • Identify potential members and decision-makers at relevant companies.
Client Retention
  • Introduce new benefits and strengthen existing relationships.
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns and services to increase sales.
  • Handle membership renewal objections by emphasizing benefits and working toward positive outcomes.
  • Use market insights and competitor analysis to highlight company’s unique selling points.
  • Support membership renewal efforts during renewal season.
Management and Research
  • Submit regular progress reports; ensure data accuracy (visits, calls, forecasts).
  • Manage CRM data effectively.
  • Work with leadership to set sales budgets and targets for development, sponsorships, and partnerships.
  • Track account activity and assist in closing deals to meet targets.
Required Skills
  • Excellent communication, persuasion, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Creative, detail-oriented, proactive, results-driven.
  • Ability to identify needs across departments and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills for managing priorities.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least three years in business development or related field.
  • Non-profit experience a plus.
  • Experience with outbound calls and campaigns.
  • Experience with CRM platforms.
Travel

Travel to off-site events up to 2 weeks/year; additional travel may be required (10-20%).
