We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Business Development Manager to drive growth within our small molecule Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO). This role will be instrumental in expanding our client base, identifying strategic opportunities, and securing development and manufacturing contracts for drug substance and/or drug product services from preclinical through commercial stages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead generation & pipeline development: Identify and qualify potential customers, particularly in biotech and pharma sectors developing small molecule therapeutics.
- Client engagement: Conduct outreach, manage prospect meetings, and act as the primary point of contact throughout the business development lifecycle.
- Proposal & contract coordination: Collaborate with technical and project management teams to prepare project proposals, quotations, and respond to RFPs/RFIs.
- Deal negotiation: Lead contract negotiations and close service agreements in collaboration with legal and finance teams.
- Strategic input: Contribute to commercial strategy by identifying market trends, customer needs, and emerging opportunities in the small molecule development space.
- Relationship management: Maintain and grow relationships with key accounts; ensure high client satisfaction and repeat business.
- Market intelligence: Monitor competitor activities, regulatory trends, and industry shifts to inform internal stakeholders and adapt business approaches.
- Event representation: Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and partnering events (e.g., CPhI, DCAT, ChemOutsourcing).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, or related field (Advanced degree or MBA a plus).
- 3–8 years of business development experience within a CDMO, CRO, or pharmaceutical services provider, with a focus on small molecule drug development and manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of the drug development lifecycle, GMP manufacturing, and outsourcing models.
- Proven track record of closing service contracts and achieving revenue targets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and across functions in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Willingness to travel for client meetings and industry events (30–50%).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with drug substance (API) and/or drug product (oral solids, injectables) manufacturing.
- Familiarity with IND/NDA-enabling studies and regulatory considerations.
- Experience with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and pipeline management systems.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus, especially for global markets.
