Job summary

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking a Maintenance Trainee in Bus Maintenance to participate in the two-year Technical Skills Program (TSP). You will complete on-the-job and classroom training, aiming to graduate into a Mechanic C role under supervision of senior staff and mentor mechanics.

During the program, you will work toward earning at least one ASE certification in the Transit Bus discipline and gain hands-on experience with WMATA buses, tools, and test

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with two years of Vocational Training in Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics.
  • CDL with passenger bus endorsements or acceptable alternative licenses.
  • No prior experience required for Level C; progression through Levels A/B/AA with 1000 hours each.

Responsibilities

  • Attend formal training classes for bus maintenance across levels.
  • Develop skills in maintenance, inspection, repair, and calibration of WMATA buses and equipment.
  • Use tools and test equipment to diagnose and repair bus systems.
  • Complete all required documentation and training records.
  • Assist in emergencies by securing equipment per safety practices.
