Job summary

WMATA is seeking a Maintenance Trainee in Bus Maintenance to participate in the two-year Technical Skills Program (TSP). The program combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training and culminates in graduation to a Mechanic, Grade C, under supervision.

Trainees must obtain at least one ASE certification in Transit Bus before completion, while working with designated mentors and a supervisor. During the program, you will attend formal classes, perform diagnostics on WMATA buses, and

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with two years of vocational training in electrical, mechanical or electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Attend formal training classes related to bus maintenance and pass exams with 75% or higher.
  • Gain familiarity with WMATA buses, equipment, and maintenance processes.
  • Use tools and test equipment to diagnose and repair bus malfunctions under supervision.
  • Work with mentors to complete on-the-job training and documentation.
  • Assist with safety practices and incident response as needed.
