Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking a Maintenance Trainee in Bus Maintenance to participate in the two-year Technical Skills Program (TSP). Trainees progress through four levels, culminating as a Mechanic, grade C, under supervision and mentor guidance.

Incumbents must obtain at least one ASE Certification in Transit Bus prior to program completion and support safety as a core value while learning maintenance, inspection and repair procedures on Metro buses.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with two years of Vocational Training in Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics.
  • In lieu of Vocational Training one year of related work experience may be considered after 1000 hours at a grade level.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger bus and air brakes; CDL requirements.
  • Willingness to complete formal safety and on-the-job training as part of the program.

Responsibilities

  • Attend formal training classes and pass exams with 75%+ scores.
  • Gain skills in maintenance, inspection, repair, installation, troubleshooting, testing and calibration of WMATA buses and equipment.
  • Under supervision, use hand/power tools and test equipment to diagnose and repair malfunctions.
  • Work with OJT mentors to effect repairs and service WMATA vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete all documentation and reports related to operations and training.
  • Assist supervisors in emergencies while following safety procedures.
