Job summary

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) invites applicants for the Maintenance Trainee, Bus Maintenance, a two-year program under the WMATA Technical Skills Program (TSP). Trainees progress through four levels, gain classroom and on-the-job training, and work under mentors to prepare for a General Transit Bus Garage Mechanic C role.

Completion includes at least one ASE certification in Transit Bus discipline.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with vocational training in electrical, mechanical or electronics.
  • 1,000 hours of related work experience in the electrical or mechanical field may substitute for vocational training.

Responsibilities

  • Attend formal training classes for basic to advanced urban transit bus maintenance.
  • Gain familiarity with maintenance, inspection, repair and testing of WMATA buses and equipment.
  • Under supervision, use hand and power tools to diagnose and repair bus systems.
  • Work with mentors to complete repairs and service WMATA vehicles.
  • Document all maintenance and training activities as required.
  • Assist with safety and emergency response tasks as needed.
