Job summary

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority seeks a Maintenance Trainee in Bus Maintenance through the WMATA Technical Skills Program. The two-year program combines classroom learning with on-the-job training under mentor mechanics.

Graduates advance to a Mechanic, grade C, with supervision and ongoing training in transit bus maintenance. Upon completion, the trainee is expected to obtain at least one ASE certification in Transit Bus and join the BMNT team for ongoing work on WMATA buses and

Qualifications

• Participation in the WMATA Technical Skills Program (TSP) for two years, with classroom and OJT.
• Progress thru four training Levels with mentorship from senior staff.
• Must acquire at least one Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in Transit Bus prior to completion.

Responsibilities

• Attend formal training classes and pass written and practical exams with 75%+.
• Develop skills in maintenance, inspection, repair, and calibration of WMATA buses and equipment.
• Use hand and power tools and test equipment under supervision to diagnose and repair bus malfunctions.
• Work with OJT mentors to effect repairs and services on WMATA vehicles.
• Complete documentation and reports related to operations and training.
