Job summary

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking a Maintenance Trainee in Bus Maintenance to participate in its two-year Technical Skills Program. Trainees graduate to Mechanic, grade C, after completing classroom and on-the-job training under supervision.

The program requires earning at least one ASE certification in Transit Bus and offers tuition reimbursement, health benefits, and free transportation on Metrobus and Rail, with opportunities across districts and shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with two years of vocational training in Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics.
  • One year of related work experience may be considered in lieu of formal training.
  • Candidate must be capable of obtaining CDL within the program timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Attend formal training classes in basic, intermediate and advanced bus maintenance.
  • Develop skills in maintenance, inspection, repair and calibration of WMATA buses and equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair malfunctions using hand tools, power tools and test equipment.
  • Work with OJT mentors to perform repairs and service on WMATA vehicles.
  • Complete all documentation and training reports as required.
