Job summary

The Building Assistant position at the Student Union, San José State University, supports SU Operations, Event Services, and Building Supervision. You will perform room setups/strikes, and keep public and meeting spaces clean before, during, and after events.

Shifts are weekday, weeknights, and weekend, with a focus on client interaction and policy enforcement. Under the SU Operations Manager, you assist with opening/closing, monitor usage, report issues, and help with safety and security.

Qualifications

• Must be a current SJSU student enrolled at least half-time.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification required or obtainable within six months.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment.
• Customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs custodial tasks and cleans restrooms, trash, floors, and glass throughout the building.
• Interacts with clients, sets up rooms, handles event strikes, and maintains public spaces cleanliness.
• Assists with opening/closing the building and monitors usage in public and event spaces.
• Reports building problems or damage and enforces policies and safety rules.
• Supports security and safety procedures and assists with emergencies as needed.
