Job summary

SJSU Student Union is seeking a Building Assistant to support Operations, Event Services, and Building Supervision at the Diaz Compean Student Union in San Jose, CA. The role includes helping with room setups, cleanliness, and enforcing building policies.

Shifts span weekdays, weeknights, and weekends. Eligible students will have first aid/CPR certification and a commitment to customer service while working in a dynamic campus facility.

Qualifications

• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification required or obtainable within six months of hire.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, noisy environment.
• Experience in customer service preferred.
• Must be a matriculated SJSU student and enrolled at least half-time during term.

Responsibilities

• Perform custodial tasks including cleaning restrooms, trash, floors, glass, inside and outside the building.
• Interact with clients, set up rooms, provide security, and maintain cleanliness of public and event spaces before, during, and after use.
• Assist with opening/closing the building and monitoring usage in public and meeting spaces.
• Report building problems or damage.
• Assist with enforcing policies and safety procedures, including OSHA and NFPA guidelines.
• Help with building emergencies and evacuations as needed.
• Maintain professional conduct at all times.
• Perform additional duties as necessary.
