Job summary

The SJSU Student Union is seeking an Events and Programs Assistant to support planning, execution, and assessment of campus-wide events. This role involves equipment setup, participant supervision, and ensuring smooth operations with a strong emphasis on customer service.

Under supervision of the Manager of Events and Programs, you will help enforce policies, attend meetings, and participate in training. The position is part-time, on-site at the Diaz Compean Student Union, with duties shifting

Qualifications

• Must be a matriculated SJSU student and enrolled at least half-time.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher.
• Preferred: Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management or related field.
• Previous customer service or event management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of campus-wide events, including setup/teardown of equipment, check-in, safety, supervision, and handling complaints/suggestions.
• Build an inclusive, welcoming environment while providing excellent customer service for attendees.
• Communicate effectively with staff and patrons.
• Enforce facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in meetings and training; sit on a committee internal to the Events and Programs team.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops.
• Support the Information Center with at least one Information Center shift per week.
