Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol in Norfolk, VA is seeking a mid-level Structural Engineer Inspector (Bridge & Waterfront) to lead field inspections of transportation structures and waterfront facilities.

You will apply FHWA and NHI criteria while inspecting bridges using buckets, snoopers, boats, ladders and safety harness, and contribute to technical reports and cost estimates. Travel 10-15% and work mainly on local projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer licensure required; with ability to obtain in Virginia via reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
• 4–7 years of structural inspection experience; FHWA-NHI-130055 and FHWA-NHI-130078 certifications.
• Waterfront inspection experience preferred.
• Willingness to travel overnight 10–15% and work from Norfolk, VA office on non-field days.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate and participate in field inspections, condition assessments and construction observation of bridges, highways, roadways and waterfront sites.
• Prepare and review inspection reports and technical documents.
• Assist in preparing reports, specifications and cost estimates for design, rehabilitation, and inspection projects.
• Provide QA reviews of inspection reports and ensure adherence to Quality Management System.
• Collaborate with professionals across departments to gather project information.
• Perform other duties as required.
