Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in waterfront infrastructure and is seeking a Structural Engineer for our Norfolk, VA office. The role requires 4–7 years of experience delivering analysis, design, and construction support for coastal projects including NAVFAC SIOP and USACE work.

You will collaborate with senior engineers to produce calculations, reports, drawings, and cost estimates while coordinating with our global offices on major programs and site visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's preferred
• Professional Engineer licensure required; ability to obtain in Virginia within 6 months
• 4–7 years of experience designing a wide range of structural projects; waterfront projects preferred
• NAVFAC waterfront project experience preferred
• Working knowledge of UFC for operational and extreme load conditions preferred
• Willingness to perform construction oversight on local job sites; valid driver's license for travel
• Background check and security clearance readiness (DBIDS) for client access; post-offer background checks performed

Responsibilities

• Lead development of structural analysis, modeling, capacity calculations and calculation reports
• Lead design and detailing for waterfront structures (concrete, steel, timber)
• Inspect and perform construction QA on waterfront projects and field conditions
• Mentor junior structural engineering staff and interns
• Coordinate with subconsultants; attend client meetings and document minutes
• Provide construction support reviews (Submittals, RFIs, Change Orders) and site visits
• Support DOR with construction support and task oversight
