Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a skilled Construction Equipment Operator to perform bridge maintenance and related tasks on Virginia roadways. You will repair, maintain and replace structures in accordance with safety standards and VDOT procedures, and operate light to medium equipment on site.

The role requires carpentry, welding and concrete finishing skills, the ability to work safely under demanding conditions, and a valid CDL with DOT card within 11 months.

Qualifications

• A combination of training, experience, or education in construction or related field.
• Experience fabricating or welding steel components.
• Experience in bridge maintenance or construction.
• Experience with light to medium-duty equipment and hand and power tools.
• Safety shoes required.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Perform carpentry, welding and concrete finishing as part of construction operations.
• Place temporary bridges and operate equipment for emergency operations.
• Apply environmental protection measures during maintenance and construction activities.
• Operate light and medium-duty highway equipment.
• Maintain site safety and follow OSHA and VOSHA regulations and practices.
• Perform manual labor and assist in construction, repair and maintenance of timber, steel and concrete bridge elements and other structures.
• Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and tools; complete pre-trip inspections.
