Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is hiring a Motor Equipment Operator I in the Bridge Maintenance unit of the Department of Public Works. The role involves installing guard rails, carpentry, concrete work, and operating dump trucks, backhoes, snowplows, mowers, and other equipment to maintain and repair bridges and public rights-of-way.

Candidates must have a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B (or higher), be able to pass a pre-employment physical, and may be required to work overtime or during

Qualifications

Requires completion of tenth grade or equivalent and 1 year of related experience.
Must have a current and valid driver’s license (CDL Class B or higher).
Able to operate bridge maintenance equipment and perform carpentry and concrete tasks.

Responsibilities

Assist with installing guard rails and handrails and perform carpentry work for safety structures.
Assist in concrete pouring, crack filling, and bituminous patching on bridge surfaces.
Assist in repairing structural components (decking, beams, railings) to extend bridge life and safety.
Operate dump trucks and light/medium equipment to transport tools and materials.
Operate weed eaters, backhoe, snowplow, and other equipment as needed.
