Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a skilled technician to inspect, test, maintain and repair movable bridges. You will troubleshoot the mechanical systems that operate these bridges following FRA and Amtrak standards.

Responsibilities include laying out and fitting metal parts, reading prints, and disassembling, repairing and rebuilding gearboxes. A background in machinist work and reading mechanical drawings is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, replacing or rebuilding mechanical equipment and systems.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and prints.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs and maneuver heavy tools and parts.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, maintain and repair movable bridges.
• Troubleshoot mechanical systems that operate movable bridges per FRA and Amtrak standards.
• Lay out, fit, and machine metal parts for moveable bridges with or without drawings.
• Read and analyze prints to guide repairs and improvements.
• Dismantle, repair and rebuild gearboxes of multiple types.
