Job summary
Amtrak in Chicago is seeking a Machinist Journeyman to inspect, test, and maintain locomotives and rolling stock in line with FRA and Amtrak standards. Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing propulsion components, air systems, and braking equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and calibrating sensors to ensure safe, reliable operations across our network.
Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and relevant technical training, with experience in railroad equipment
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training or apprenticeship preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment.
- Welding and cutting experience preferred.
- Prior railroad equipment maintenance experience encouraged.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, test and maintain locomotives and rolling stock per FRA and Amtrak standards.
- Repair drive systems, wheels, suspension and other propulsion components.
- Diagnose and repair air systems and air brakes.
- Perform preventative maintenance and move locomotives as needed.
- Calibrate pressure switches and valves to standards.
