Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED/TASC.
  • Machinist apprenticeship completed or 4 years journeyman experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Experience with mechanical/diesel systems helpful.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all LIRR rolling stock units and associated machinery in good repair.
  • Trouble-shoot, repair, and install mechanical components of cranes, conveyors, turntables, and other heavy equipment.
  • Clean tools, equipment and parts with brushes, torches, and solvents.
  • Inspect equipment for damage and wear per FRA, AAR, and LIRR policies.
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
