Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a skilled technician to inspect, test and maintain wheels sets, brakes, and suspension systems on rolling stock, ensuring compliance with FRA and Amtrak standards. The role requires troubleshooting, welding may be involved, and a solid foundation in mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

You will work in a safety-conscious environment with opportunities to advance, under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in troubleshooting, repair, replacement and rebuilding of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Must complete training and attain/retain certifications for the role.
• Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge and skill in using electronic tools and measurements to meet standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspection, testing and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations and Amtrak standards.
• Troubleshoots equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of failures.
• Repairs doors, windows, interior equipment, access panels, hand brakes, brakeshoes, exterior components, fire extinguishers, emergency tools and first aid kits.
• Uses test equipment to diagnose malfunctions, troubleshoot and repair components/circuits.
• Maintains proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines and hand tools.
• May perform welding and burning.
