Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a skilled locomotive and rolling stock technician to inspect, test, and maintain locomotives and related equipment in alignment with FRA and Amtrak standards. The role emphasizes mechanical repairs to propulsion components, brake systems, and drive assemblies, with preventative maintenance and safety at the core.

The candidate will diagnose air systems, calibrate pressure controls, read mechanical drawings, and work with various tools in a dynamic, safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical school or apprenticeship preferred.
• Experience in troubleshooting, repair, replacement or rebuilding mechanical equipment and systems.
• Welding and cutting experience preferred.
• Experience in railroad equipment maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test and maintain locomotives and rolling stock per FRA and Amtrak standards.
• Perform mechanical repairs to drive systems, wheels, suspension and propulsion components.
• Diagnose and repair air systems and air brake equipment.
• Conduct preventative locomotive maintenance.
• Calibrate and test components per 49 CFR and Amtrak standards.
