The role emphasizes environmental protection, equipment operation, and strict adherence to safety policies. CDL and DOT medical card are required within 11 months; travel between sites may occur as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to lead, direct, and train others, providing technical direction.
• Must obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations, measure and layout construction elements.
• Ability to perform physically demanding labor in challenging conditions.
• Ability to read, interpret bridge plans and safety manuals.
• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures for highway/bridge maintenance.
• Skilled in carpentry, concrete forming and finishing, and welding.

Responsibilities

• Bridge Construction: fabricate and install bridge elements, read plans, perform layout and calculations.
• Bridge Maintenance: erect and install beams, decks, protect structures during maintenance.
• Environmental Protection: lead in-stream and environmental protection measures.
• Equipment Operation: safely operate equipment for bridge work.
• Job Safety: enforce site safety, use PPE, follow OSHA/VDOT rules.
• Leadership: train crew, supervise, and assist during emergencies.
• Manual labor: perform construction tasks for timber, steel, and concrete components.
• Preventive Maintenance: maintain equipment, transport personnel and materials.
• Traffic Control: manage signs and detours to secure work zones.
