Job summary

Highmark Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care within the Allegheny Health Network. You will assist in coordinating examinations, preparing rooms, and accurately documenting vital signs and medical histories in the EHR.

Responsibilities include assisting with screenings, updating medication lists, and supporting providers during examinations and procedures. The role may involve traveling between physician offices as needed and requires basic credentialing and CPR

Qualifications

• Minimum High School / GED or Completion of a Medical Assistant Program.
• Certification Requirements: Employees who have: graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and must obtain certification within 120 days of hire.
• Accepted Medical Assistant Certification (NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA)
• Employees who have not met the above certification criteria may have the opportunity to sit for a company proctored certification exam when qualified.
• Preferred Associate's Degree
• Additional Employment Requirements: CPR – American Heart Association Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient care under supervision of the health care provider.
• Prepare and room patients per standardized workflows.
• Accurately obtain patient vital signs and document patient information.
• May assist in the administration of depression screening tools.
• Complete annual wellness visit screenings.
• Review and update medication lists in the EHR.
• Review social history with patient and update records.
• Assist with orders for age-appropriate screenings and prescriptions as needed.
• Perform back-office testing following approved protocols.
• Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
• May serve as a scribe with training.
• Provide follow-up with patients via telephone, electronic or written methods.
• Notify patients of test results under provider direction.
• Prepare exam rooms and maintain inventory of medical supplies.
• Sterilize instruments per policy and guidelines.
• Accurately perform lab controls and equipment checks.
• Document accurately in the EHR and perform clerical duties.
