Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks Border Patrol Agents to join a large federal law enforcement team. You will perform duties across immigration enforcement, border protection, and related inspections with opportunities for career growth and stability.

Salary varies by grade (GL-5 through GS-12) with promotion potential, and recruitment incentives up to $20,000 plus additional retention incentives. Training at academy followed by field assignments nationwide is included.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations; to learn regulations, methods, and techniques; and gather information through questioning and records.
• A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field from an accredited college or university; OR
• A combination of general work experience AND college education submitted with your application.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the borders by surveillance and night operations.
• Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using various government assets to fulfill CBP mission.
