Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks Border Patrol Agents to join a large federal law enforcement workforce. BPAs detect immigration and customs violations, inspect documents, question individuals, and patrol borders using diverse assets.

Positions are at GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 or GS-11 with potential to GS-12. Annual base pay ranges from $51,632 to $124,717, plus comprehensive benefits, leave, and Thrift Savings Plan.

Qualifications

Requires one year of general work experience demonstrating decision making and composure under stress, plus ability to learn regulations.
Bachelor's degree or completion of a full four-year course of study; or a combination of experience and education.
Note: higher grades for GL-7/GL-9/GS-11 based on experience and education requirements.

Responsibilities

Detecting and questioning people suspected of immigration and customs violations.
Inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders.
Interpreting tracks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using varied assets.
