U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at GL‑5, GL‑7, GL‑9, or GS‑11 levels with promotion potential to GS‑12. The base pay varies by grade (approx.

$51,632–$124,717 annually). CBP offers health and dental insurance, generous leave, and a Thrift Savings Plan retirement. New agents may receive up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives (paid in stages) and additional incentives up to $30,000 over three years.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the borders using surveillance and night-vision equipment.
• Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using government assets to accomplish the USBP Mission.
