Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks Border Patrol Agents (BPA) to join a large federal law enforcement team. The role offers full‑time entry and mid‑level career opportunities with base pay, comprehensive benefits, and stability.

Salary at GL‑5 to GS‑11 levels ranges from $51,632 to $124,717 per year, with recruitment and retention incentives up to $50,000. Locations nationwide provide prioritized duty stations and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Experience: One year of general work experience showing ability to take charge and make sound decisions under stress.
• Education substitution: A bachelor’s degree or completion of a full four‑year course of study in any field.
• Combination of experience and education: A mix of work experience and college education submitted with your application.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the borders using surveillance and other assets.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
• Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off‑road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.
