Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) invites applicants for Border Patrol Agent (BPA) positions. This federal role offers competitive base pay, comprehensive benefits, and potential recruitment incentives up to $50,000 with a prioritized location.

Selections will be at GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 or GS-11 levels with possible progression to GS-12. Primary duties include border surveillance, document inspection, and lawful apprehensions.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure; learn regulations and procedures.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree; OR
• Combination of general work experience and college education submitted with your application.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of immigration and customs violations and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night-operations techniques.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and other evidence of illegal entry; performing checks of farms, buildings, traffic, city areas, and transportation.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, and other assets.
• Note: duty locations may vary; final offer could be at a different U.S. duty location if needed.
