Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at the GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 or GS-11 levels with potential to GS-12. The role offers strong federal benefits and recruitment incentives.

Duty locations across the United States are available, with base pay ranging from $51,632 to $124,717 per year. Selected BPAs may receive up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives and up to $30,000 in retention incentives over three years, depending on location and terms.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating leadership, decision making, and composure under stress.
• A bachelor's degree or full four-year program in any field may substitute education for experience.
• Combination of general experience and education is acceptable per the qualification standards.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of immigration or customs violations and inspect documents.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers using surveillance and patrol techniques.
• Interpret tracks and evidence of illegal entry and contraband to guide enforcement actions.
• Perform checks and patrols across farms, buildings, traffic, and city areas as needed.
• Patrol borders and waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, and other assets to fulfill the mission.
