Job summary

CBP invites qualified applicants for Border Patrol Agent positions across the United States. This federal role offers competitive base pay, extensive federal benefits, and clear career progression within the U.S. Border Patrol.

As a BPA you will detect, question, and inspect individuals to enforce immigration and customs laws, perform patrols near borders, and use various assets. Training is provided at the Academy, with opportunities for advancement to GS-11/12 levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• One year of general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and learn regulations under classroom or on-the-job training.
• Combination of general work experience and education can qualify for certain grades.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent undocumented noncitizens and smugglers from entering or remaining near borders using surveillance and night-vision equipment.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and other evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks as part of patrols.
• Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using government assets to fulfill the USBP Mission.
