Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is seeking Border Patrol Agents (BPA) to join a large federal law enforcement workforce. The role offers base pay at GL-5/7/9 or GS-11 levels, strong federal benefits, and retention incentives.

Primary duties include border surveillance, questioning individuals, and enforcing immigration and customs laws across multiple duty locations. New BPA recruits may receive recruitment incentives up to $20,000 with potential for an additional $30,000 in retention

Qualifications

• Knowledge of immigration and nationality law (e.g., non-immigrant classifications, immigrant classifications, inadmissible noncitizens)
• Knowledge of the Use of Force Policy (firearms, less-lethal devices, etc.)
• Knowledge of Criminal Law and Procedure (statutory authority)
• Skill in Using Firearms (handgun, shotgun, M-4)
• Skills in Basic Operation of a Motor Vehicle (everyday use of vehicles)

Responsibilities

• Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration or customs violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders.
• Interpret evidence of illegal entry and contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrol international boundaries and waterways using diverse assets.
