Job summary

Avolta in Boston is seeking a Retail Shift Manager to support store leadership in delivering excellent customer experiences. You will supervise hourly associates, coach staff, ensure compliance with SOPs, and manage planogram changes, merchandising, and cash handling during shifts.

Key responsibilities include approving timekeeping, monitoring breaks, coordinating with management on inventory and promotions, and maintaining store standards, safety, and customer service across daily operations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of retail and/or customer service experience.
• Minimum 6 months of supervisory or lead experience in retail, specialty retail, or customer service environment.
• Book retail experience or active reading interest preferred.
• Basic math skills and cash handling experience.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and health standards, and procedures to comply with retail regulations.
• Experience with POS systems and retail management software.
• Product knowledge relevant to assigned retail category with ability to make customer recommendations, or ability to develop this expertise quickly after hire.
• Strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and ability to maintain operational standards while supporting team performance during assigned shifts.
• Understanding of visual merchandising principles, planogram execution, and retail display standards specific to book retail environments.

Responsibilities

• Executes SOPs during shifts by conducting regular checks, ensuring brand standards, and documenting deviations for management review.
• Ensures merchandise displays remain clean, stocked, and visually appealing and reports maintenance needs.
• Reviews and approves timekeeping and monitors overtime to comply with labor laws and budgets.
• Assigns tasks to associates and ensures breaks and meals are taken per regulations.
• Escalates performance concerns and provides coaching to improve performance and standards.
• Operates POS systems and handles transactions following cash policies and security protocols.
• Monitors inventory levels, assists with receiving, and reports discrepancies to management.
• Ensures compliance with retail policies and trains staff on brand standards and merchandising.
