Job summary

Books-A-Million is seeking a friendly Bookseller to help customers on the sales floor and at the register, sharing its passion for books and recommending great reads. This hourly role requires 16+ and completion of background screenings, with training provided in-store.

You'll work closely with associates and leadership in a fast-paced environment that blends sales, merchandising, and everyday store upkeep, while delivering warm, helpful service to every customer.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older
• Successful completion of all required background screenings
• A genuine love of books, reading, and discovering something new — with curiosity to learn about products, authors, and what customers are excited about.
• Strong communication and connection skills — creating warm, genuine interactions with customers and teammates through thoughtful listening and clear communication.
• An ownership mindset — taking initiative, staying organized, and confidently balancing multiple priorities to keep the store running smoothly.
• Previous retail or customer service experience — bringing an understanding of what it takes to create a welcoming store, serve customers well, and take ownership of the details that make a great retail experience.
• Comfort with technology and transactions — using computers and cash registers accurately while staying curious and willing to learn new systems and processes.

Responsibilities

• Welcome every customer with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. Listen, connect, and help them discover exactly what they’re looking for—from a favorite author to an unexpected treasure.
• Drive sales across all products by highlighting benefits and programs, and recommending books naturally.
• Maintain a visually inviting sales floor with displays and tidy shelves.
• Pitch in across departments, assist with inventory and shipments, and perform other duties as assigned.
