Job Summary

The Blood Donor Center Supervisor provides clinical and administrative supervision for front-line staff in the Blood Donor Center and blood drives. The supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations in the Blood Donor Center, overseeing employees, including performance reviews, scheduling, complaint management, onboarding, and performance management. The supervisor ensures donor safety and improves customer/staff satisfaction. Supervises the administrative, regulatory, and operative functions of the Blood Donor Center and the Patient Blood Management (PBM) program to ensure collection and transfusion-related activities are conducted safely and meet or exceed regulatory standards. Collaborates with the Transfusion Medicine Manager on budgetary activities and oversees all related activities with Marketing and Foundation Departments. Participates in transfusion-related meetings, peer reviews, and educational activities within the hospital.

Example of Essential Functions:

  1. Oversees and assists in the production of blood components manufactured at Frederick Health Blood Donor Center.
  2. Supervision of assigned agents including, but not limited to, interviewing/hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and disciplining to ensure a well-qualified team and enhance operational success.
  3. Ensures adequate staffing to meet call center objectives.
  4. Projects staffing needs and develops strategies to meet call hours objectives.
  5. Initiates defined contingency actions during the call period to maximize production.
  6. Responsible for monitoring individual agent calls, evaluating calls against defined standards of performance, and providing coaching to service agents.
  7. Utilizes third-party reviews to provide coaching and identifies training needs for agents.
  8. Utilizes systems, reports, and resources productively to achieve objectives cost-effectively.
  9. Implements programs for leading and motivating agents to achieve recruitment organizational objectives and minimize turnover.
  10. Identifies operational problems, corrects them, and works to prevent future recurrences by collaborating with support departments and supervisors.
  11. Performs daily administrative and leadership tasks, communicates department metrics, and responds to employee questions while handling escalated concerns.
  12. Provides training regarding laboratory and hospital policies and Blood Donor Services procedures.
  13. Monitors employees' continuing education, competency, and proficiency.
  14. Performs employee evaluations.
  15. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies: FDA, AABB, CAP, Maryland health department.
  16. Develops and keeps current Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
  17. Monitors department QC and equipment maintenance.
  18. Investigates complaints, problems, and errors; ensures appropriate action is taken.
  19. Performs tracking and trending analysis as needed.
  20. Maintains the Blood Donor Services quality program in accordance with regulations.
  21. Participates in Transfusion Committee meetings.

Minimum Education Required, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Medical Technologist, MT, MLS, or RN with 2 years donor room experience.
  2. 5 years experience in Immuno-hematology preferred.
  3. Donor room and/or Immuno-hematology skills preferred.

Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:

  • Neonate (0 thru 30 days)
  • Infant (31 thru 12 months)
  • Child (13 months thru 12 years)
  • Adolescent (13 years thru 17 years)
  • Adult (18 years thru 65 years)
  • Geriatric (66+ years)

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. If the position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.

Pay Range: $57,000-$85,000
