Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking personnel to assist with the blood collection process at donation sites in local communities. You will use healthcare and customer service skills to support donors and ensure a positive, safe experience.

Paid phlebotomy training is provided, with opportunities to grow your healthcare career within the nation’s top humanitarian organization.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills.
  • A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Physical requirements may include lifting, pushing or pulling heavy weights and long hours.
  • Teamwork to set up and tear down equipment for mobile drives.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office).

Responsibilities

  • Connect with donors to explain how donations impact lives.
  • Create a welcoming environment to encourage repeat donations.
  • Ensure collected blood meets goals, regulatory requirements and safety standards.
  • Assist with driving Red Cross vehicles and setting up/tearing down equipment at donation sites.

Job Overview

When you join our team you will be utilizing your healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process. This includes collaborating with your team to transport and set up equipment at the collection sites in local communities, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors, and following all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations that are delivered to hospitals.

The Red Cross offers paid phlebotomy training with the ability to grow your healthcare skills and career within the nation's top humanitarian organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take the time to personally connect with donors – listen to their stories and help them understand how impactful their donation is.
  • Collaborate with your teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment so volunteer donors feel comfortable coming back again and again.
  • Be detail-oriented all day, every day. This ensures that the blood you collect meets goals, regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
  • May drive Red Cross vehicles and you will work with the team to set up and tear down equipment at the donation sites. Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.
Schedule
  • To best meet the needs of our donors and community, staff work a variable schedule that may include early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays. Overnight travel may be required in some locations.
  • Schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance.
Pay Information
  • Starting rate $19.00 per hour. Pay may increase depending on experience.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills.
  • A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Physical requirements may include ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes. Position may require minimum height of 60 inches to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.
  • All staff work as a team to set up and tear down the equipment required to conduct a mobile blood drive.
  • Basic computer skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.).
  • Prior leadership experience.
