Job summary

The American Red Cross in Waterloo, IA is hiring a phlebotomist to assist with every step of the blood collection process, ensuring a welcoming donor environment and strict safety procedures. Paid phlebotomy training is provided to grow healthcare skills within the organization.

Responsibilities include connecting with donors, collaborating with teammates, and maintaining accuracy to meet regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required.
  • A current, valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
  • Physical requirements may include lifting, pushing or pulling heavy weights, use ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, sit or stand for long periods, adapt to irregular hours and frequent schedule changes. Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.
  • All staff work as a team to set up and tear down equipment required for mobile blood drives.
  • Basic computer skills are required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

  • May drive Red Cross vehicles and work with the team to set up and tear down equipment at the donation sites. The position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.

When you join our team you will be utilizing your healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process. This includes collaborating with your team to transport and set up equipment at the collection sites in local communities, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors, and following all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations that are delivered to hospitals.

Standard Schedule (Waterloo, Iowa)
  • Staff work a variable schedule which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Overnight travel may be required in some locations.
  • Schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance.
Pay Information
  • Starting rate $19.50/hr. Pay may increase depending on experience.
