Job summary

The American Red Cross seeks an individual to support the blood donation process, leveraging healthcare or customer service skills to assist at collection sites. You will help transport and set up equipment, create a welcoming space for volunteer donors, and follow safety procedures to ensure lif-saving blood donations reach hospitals.

You may drive Red Cross vehicles and work with teammates to set up and tear down at donation sites.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required.
  • A current, valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
  • Physical requirements: lift/push/pull heavy weights, sit/stand long hours, adapt to long irregular hours; minimum height 60 inches for vehicle operation.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Connect with donors and explain the impact of donation.
  • Create a welcoming environment so donors feel comfortable returning.
  • Maintain attention to detail to meet regulatory requirements and ensure safe transfusion.
  • May drive Red Cross vehicles and assist with setting up/tearing down equipment; some sites require height minimum of 60 inches.

Job Overview

When you join our team you will be utilizing your healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process. This includes collaborating with your team to transport and set up equipment at the collection sites in local communities, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors, and following all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations that are delivered to hospitals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take the time to personally connect with donors – listen to their stories and help them understand how impactful their donation is.
  • Collaborate with your teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment so our volunteer donors feel comfortable coming back again and again.
  • Be detail‑oriented all day, every day. This ensures that the blood you collect meets goals, regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
  • May drive Red Cross vehicles and you will work with the team to set up and tear down equipment at the donation sites. The position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required.
  • A current, valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
  • Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes. The position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.
  • Basic computer skills are required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.).
  • Prior leadership experience.
