Job summary

The American Red Cross is looking for a dedicated Phlebotomist in Fairfax, Virginia. As a Phlebotomist, you will assist in blood collection processes, ensuring a welcoming environment for donors and delivering lifesaving donations to hospitals.

Job Description

We provide paid phlebotomy training with no prior medical experience required.

As a phlebotomist you will assist with every step of the blood collection process. This includes transporting and setting up equipment at collection sites, creating a welcoming environment for volunteer donors, and collecting lifesaving blood donations that are delivered to hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

• Personal connect with donors, listen to their stories, and help them understand the impact of their donation.
• Collaborate with teammates to create a welcoming, friendly environment for donors.
• Maintain detailed accuracy to ensure collected blood meets regulatory requirements and safety standards.
• Operate Red Cross vehicles and assist in setting up and tearing down equipment at donation sites.

Standard Schedule

• Variable hours Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday with early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance.

Pay Information

• Starting rate $18.97 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills required.
• A current, valid driver's license with good driving record required.
• Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, and the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes.
• Basic computer skills required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.).
• Prior leadership experience.
