Job summary

American Red Cross is seeking a team member to safely transport blood collection equipment, set up and tear down sites, and assist with donor engagement. You will help create a welcoming environment and ensure regulatory compliance throughout the donation process.

Job Overview

When you join our team you will be utilizing your CDL and customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process. This includes collaborating with your team to transport and set up equipment at collection sites, creating a welcoming environment for volunteer donors, and following all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations to hospitals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely transport blood collection equipment, set up and tear down sites in collaboration with team members.
  • Take the time to personally connect with donors, listen to their stories, and help them understand how impactful their donation is.
  • Collaborate with teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment so volunteer donors feel comfortable coming back again and again.
  • Be detail oriented throughout the day to ensure that collected blood meets regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
Standard Schedule

To best meet the needs of donors and community, staff work a variable schedule that may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Overnight travel may be required in some locations. The schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance.

Pay Information
  • Starting rate: $24.57 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills.
  • A current, valid driver’s license with Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a good driving record.
  • Experience driving large vehicles (strongly preferred).
  • DOT certification required; must pass applicable DOT physical and related requirements and be able to possess or obtain a medical certification of at least one-year duration.
  • Physical ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights, use a ramp or stairs, sit or stand for long periods, adapt to irregular hours and frequent schedule changes. Minimum height of 60 inches may be required.
  • Basic computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (e.g., CNA, MA, EMT).
  • Prior leadership experience.
