Job summary

American Red Cross is seeking Blood Collection Staff to assist with every step of the donation process, including equipment setup, creating a welcoming donor environment, and following safety procedures.

Paid phlebotomy training is provided to grow healthcare skills within the organization. A high school diploma, strong customer service, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work variable hours are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication required.
  • Current, valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
  • Physical ability to lift and move items, operate vehicles safely, and work long or irregular hours.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team to create a friendly setting so donors return.
  • Maintain accuracy to meet goals and regulatory standards for safety.

Job description

The Blood Collection Staff role involves assisting with every step of the blood collection process, including setting up equipment, creating a welcoming environment for donors, and following safety procedures to collect lifesaving blood donations. Paid phlebotomy training is provided with opportunities to grow healthcare skills within the American Red Cross.

Responsibilities
  • Take the time to personally connect with donors – listen to their stories and help them understand how impactful their donation is
  • Collaborate with your teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment so our volunteer donors feel comfortable coming back again and again
  • Be detailed oriented all day, every day to ensure that the blood collected meets goals, regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused
  • May drive Red Cross vehicles and work with the team to setup and tear down equipment at the donation sites
  • Work a variable schedule which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required
  • A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is required
  • Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes are required
  • Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications
  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.) is preferred
  • Prior leadership experience is preferred
