Job summary

Blue Water Thinking, LLC is seeking a skilled Biomedical Equipment Technician to maintain and secure medical devices at the VA in California. The role covers preventive and corrective maintenance, device security, software updates, and staff training to ensure patient safety and high-quality care.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, five+ years of hospital equipment experience, and familiarity with Cerner EHR integration.

Qualifications

• Two-year associate degree or higher in an applied science or equivalent military training.
• At least five years of hospital/healthcare experience maintaining medical equipment.
• Experience performing operational verification, planned maintenance and repair on medical devices.
• Familiarity with test equipment and reading schematics/drawings.
• Understanding of regulatory/ISO standards requirements.
• Experience with Cerner EHR integration preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on a wide range of medical equipment to ensure reliability.
• Diagnose and repair malfunctions following manufacturer guidelines.
• Conduct incoming inspections of new equipment for safety and functionality.
• Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity to implement medical device security.
• Install, calibrate and configure equipment per manufacturer instructions.
• Conduct electrical safety inspections and address hazards.
• Monitor recalls and coordinate with manufacturers for resolution.
• Provide software updates and ensure compatibility with systems.
• Maintain CMMS records of maintenance and repairs.
• Train staff on proper operation of medical equipment.
