Job summary

RRD in Smyrna, TN is seeking an experienced Bindery Operator to set up and run a variety of finishing machines that produce books, catalogs, and printed materials. You will adjust equipment, monitor quality and productivity, and mentor teammates to uphold company standards.

The role requires familiarity with different paper weights and binding processes, strong math skills for dimensional accuracy, and the ability to use hand tools and bindery equipment.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with different paper weights, sizes, kinds and colors to identify paper conditions.
• Familiarity with basic mathematics to understand dimensional requirements and adjustments.
• Ability to use standard and specialized tools to adjust and maintain bindery machines.
• Skill in using handtools to service powered machines and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret written work indicating machine operations and dimensional accuracy.
• Knowledge of operating procedures for bindery equipment like folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills and gluing machines.
• Working knowledge of setup, adjustment, and capabilities of equipment for folding, collating and cutting printed materials.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate various bindery and finishing machines to produce final books, catalogs, or magazines.
• Direct crew through production processes and monitor quality, output and productivity.
• Train and mentor new and existing employees on company policies and best practices.
• Ensure safe operation and inspect equipment for potential hazards.
• Apply adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine.
