Job summary

Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking part-time instructors for its Watershed Education by Bike (WEB) after-school program in Camden/Burlington County, NJ. Instructors will guide groups of 13 students in grades 5-8 on bikes and in classrooms, delivering watershed education and hands-on activities.

The role requires a high school diploma (college degree preferred), availability 2:00pm–6:00pm, and a willingness to travel across Camden and Burlington counties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
• Ability to travel throughout Camden City and surrounding counties.
• Interest or experience in physical activity and environmental education.

Responsibilities

• Teach bicycle safety and basic maintenance to participants.
• Deliver watershed and environmental lessons using provided curriculum.
• Establish relationships with local partners to support the WEB program.
• Lead activities at multiple after-school sites and adapt lessons as needed.
• Assist in developing lessons from provided resources.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is hiring part-time instructors for its growing after-school watershed education program. Watershed Education by Bike (WEB) is a groundbreaking program that gets youth active by teaching them how to safely ride in urban, suburban and trail environments, while also focusing on watershed and environmental education. Bicycles allow students to get out of the classroom and offer hands-on experiential learning opportunities in the community. When working in multiple environments, instructors will lead a group of 13 students in grades 5th-8th on program-owned bicycles through the trails in Camden and Burlington Counties, NJ. When working in our school aged classroom setting, instructors will prepare and implement watershed education lessons/experiments with children grades K-8th.

What is needed for this job:

• High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred
• Must be available Monday – Friday between 2:00pm – 6:00pm
• Experience or interest in physical activity & environmental education
• Must be willing to travel throughout Camden City, and Burlington and Camden counties
• Have a basic knowledge of bicycle mechanics and be able to ride a bicycle at 8-12 MPH
• Strong classroom management, conflict resolution, and oral communication skills
• Ability to complete tasks independently.
