Job summary

The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services seeks a Benefit Programs Trainer to educate staff on SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, and other benefits. You’ll develop instructor-led sessions, create materials, and promote active learning among Benefit Programs staff.

You will stay current with policy changes, assess training effectiveness, and tailor programs to improve service delivery. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Five years eligibility experience.
• 2–3 years in Social Services with understanding of public assistance programs.
• 2–3 years in professional training or instruction.
• Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education or related field.
• Knowledge of adult training methodologies and learning theories.
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly in writing and speech.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement instructor-led training sessions on benefit programs (SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, Energy Assistance, LTSS).
• Create and maintain training materials (presentations, manuals, SOPs, desk aids, online resources).
• Facilitate engaging learning environments for adult learners.
• Evaluate training effectiveness via assessments and feedback; adjust content accordingly.
• Stay updated on local, state, and federal policy changes affecting programs.
• Provide ongoing support to Benefit Programs staff on program guidelines.
