Job summary

Chesterfield County’s Department of Social Services seeks a dynamic Benefit Programs Trainer to educate and empower staff on public assistance programs, delivering engaging training sessions to Benefit Programs staff. The role focuses on developing effective curricula for SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, Energy Assistance, LTSS, and related programs, with ongoing evaluation and updates.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years eligibility experience.
• Minimum of 2–3 years in Social Services with understanding of public assistance programs.
• Minimum of 2–3 years in professional training or instruction.
• Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education or closely related field with related training.
• Excellent organizational, time management, communication, interpersonal, public relations and supervisory skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver instructor-led trainings on SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, Energy Assistance, LTSS and related benefits.
• Create and maintain training materials including manuals, SOPs, desk aids and online resources.
• Facilitate engaging learning environments for adult learners.
• Stay updated on policy changes and program updates at local, state, and federal levels.
• Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments and feedback; adjust content as needed.
• Provide ongoing support to Benefit Programs staff on guidelines.
• Monitor trainee cases to tailor training plans.
• Collaborate with managers and team members to address training needs and improvements.
• Assist in determining eligibility for public assistance programs when required.
• Perform other duties as required.
