Description of the Behavioral Health Technician Role

Cognito LLC, a joint venture between Planned Systems International (PSI) and other partners, is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to support the ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) at the T. Don Hutto Detention Center in Taylor, Texas.

This role involves providing high-quality healthcare services to individuals in ICE custody, including mental health screenings, patient care management, and facilitating psycho-educational groups. The technician will work under the supervision of a licensed Behavioral Health Provider and perform duties such as behavioral observations, compliance coaching, appointment scheduling, and documentation in electronic health records.

Essential Functions

• Conduct mental health screenings and behavioral observations
• Assist in providing direct services and health data collection
• Facilitate therapeutic and psycho-educational groups
• Document clinical observations and monitor patient safety
• Perform wellness checks and crisis management as needed
• Coordinate follow-up care and maintain accurate records

Minimum Requirements

• Associates degree in behavioral science or related field
• Certification: AAPT level three within 12 months of hire, and current BLS/CPR certification
• Two years of experience in a mental health or healthcare setting
• Ability to pass background and drug screening, and meet physical and immunization requirements
• Proficiency in electronic health records, communication skills, and cultural awareness
